‘Wordle’ #1,190 Hints, Clues and Answer for Saturday, September 21 Game

A new day means a new Wordle puzzle, and if you’re stumped, Newsweek is here to help with clues and hints.

The word game was created by software developer Josh Wardle and was released to the public in October 2021. The following year, it was sold to The New York Times for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

Today, Wordle boasts a large global following and is beloved by celebrities including Ben Affleck, Meghan Markle, Bradley Cooper, Carol Burnett, Allison Janney and more.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in April 2023, Burnett revealed she and Janney “Wordle.”

“We just Wordle back and forth,” the Carol Burnett Show star said. “She’s the first one every morning at my coffee.”

When it comes to their word game skills, Burnett added it’s a fairly even playing field. “We’re kind of alike,” she shared.

Players get six chances to guess the five-letter word, and feedback is given in the form of colors to help narrow down what word it could be.

A green box indicates that the letter is correct and in the correct space, and a yellow box indicates that you’ve guessed a letter in the word, though it’s not in the right spot. A gray box, meanwhile, means the letter is not in the word at all.

While speaking with Newsweek in January 2022, Wardle joked that while he created the game, he’s not very good at it.

“I’m afraid I’m not really the best,” he shared at the time. “[My partner] and I play it on the couch together each morning. She will consistently get it in three goes, which is way, way better than I can ever hope to achieve. I normally need at least four or five attempts.”

The answer to Saturday’s Wordle will be revealed at the bottom of the page, so if you’d like to work out the puzzle for yourself, please be wary while scrolling.
