Ubisoft Confirms 60 People Could Lose Their Jobs

• Bookmarks: 4

Ubisoft has confirmed a round of layoffs for team members in the US and UK. The company said in an emailed statement that 60 staffers from the company’s offices in Cary, North Carolina and Newcastle in the UK “could be impacted” due to organizational changes.

The cuts are coming from Ubisoft’s Customer Relations Center team. This group is “evolving its organization to focus on where we can have a significant impact while remaining steadfast in our commitment to consistently support our players anywhere in the world,” Ubisoft said.

As a result of organizational changes, 60 staffers could be impacted. One affected employee is Matthew Hayes, who wrote on Twitter that Ubisoft did not provide notice about the cuts.

The announcement of this change, and the staffing reductions, comes just ahead of Ubisoft’s next earnings briefing on May 16 where it will report its full-year business results.

Layoffs at video game studios and across the technology sector have been a frequent occurrence in recent months. Game engine company Unity just laid off 600 people, Take-Two eliminated a number of positions, and Xbox cut jobs at Halo developer 343 and elsewhere.

Ubisoft’s next big event is the Ubisoft Forward showcase in June where it is expected to discuss its upcoming games.
