The Community Spotlight 2024.08.10

• Bookmarks: 18

Welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! I, @zombiepie, am once again honored to be your host as we look back at the biggest site-related news and best community creations from the previous week!

With the end of Summer drawing closer, this is once again your reminder to pick up the items that are in the Giant Bomb store for the Summer 2024 Collection! Huge props to Kone for going out of their comfort zone and making the design for the playing cards, which you can still buy for $10! Seeing their name attached to official Giant Bomb merch after enjoying their photoshop stuff for years has been a complete delight.

For those of you that are still interested in picking up the Giant Bomb 16th anniversary t-shirt, here’s another direct link to the shirt in case you couldn’t find it or possibly lost it. Still no hard date when these shirts will go out of print, so, get them while you can!

Speaking of the Giant Bomb 16th anniversary celebrations, this week brought Alex Navarro and Lucy James sharing their favorite moments throughout Giant Bomb’s sixteen years of existence. Don’t forget that @marino is updating a carousel on the front page with videos related to Giant Bomb’s anniversary that get posted to YouTube or social media. When you can, consider posting a supportive comment to one of these articles they have posted on the site.

When it comes to programming notes, those of you that rely on Twitch VODs to consume Giant Bomb archival content may have noticed something “weird” about episode 852 of the Giant Bombcast. TurboShawn believes that Dan’s imitation of Benny Benassi’s “Satisfaction” may have automatically triggered Twitch’s DMCA bot and as a result, three whole minutes of that episode have been muted, but only on Twitch.

Speaking of TurboShawn, they continue to be investigating the RSS Feed and show issues, but also are working to prune and synthesize the Giant Bomb YouTube page. As mentioned earlier, you don’t need to go to the “Live” tab anymore to find video stream VODs or previously streamed content. If you have any suggestions of what you would like to see improved of the account, drop a comment here!

Mike Holding An Ice Cream Cone While Starring Into The Abyss… (By: @theMaximumYeti, @Marz311, @JupiterJazz92, @CreakyLegs, and @BungleNoMore)

So, an image of Mike came out that showed him at a balcony blankly starring across the vantage point. In hopes of creating another Giant bomb-themed meme, I put out a call for people to have fun with a transparent version of the photo I nabbed from the Giant Bomb Discord.

And the internet delivered.

Womack, you piece of shit!

The end has finally reached us! Grubb is no longer a prisoner of John Romero’s Daikatana, but that doesn’t mean the immediate or complete end of Pickle_Giraffe’s animated interpretation of Blight Club.

Anyone genuinely surprised? Anyone genuinely surprised?
Anyone genuinely surprised?

It’s almost nostalgic seeing a video game-based movie come out and tank with the critics. It is as if we have been transported back to simpler times. To those of you unaware, the Borderlands movie finally came out and based on the reviews, it’s not very good.

That said, share to them what has recently been happening in the game to them in the thread above.

@humanish has decided to boot up the old 3DS as portable handhelds and devices start to experience a slight renaissance. However, they started things off with one of the worst games on the platform: NASCAR Unleashed.

@sbc515 continues their effort to review every Need for Speed game with reviews of Need for Speed: High Stakes and Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit. Do either games still hold up well after decades of quality racing games being released?

@sbc515 is also back to reviewing notoriously bad retro games and this time checked out Tetsuwan Atom by Home Data and Konami for the NES/Famicom.

Rupert Booth, the man best known for playing Inspector Frederick Jenks in Contradiction: Spot The Liar!, recently reminded the internet that Contradiction celebrated its 10th anniversary. While the wiki page itself might not be the actual best on the site, the game still remains one of the most entertaining features brought forth to us by the earliest version of the Giant Bomb New York team.

For those of you that joined the site after Vinny, Alex, and Austin had a go at the game, here’s what you missed, and each video is well worth seeing:
