Insider’s Take

Rosland Capital’s investment selection consists of gold, silver, and platinum, so the platform is perfect for precious metals-minded investors.

Rosland Capital Review

Rosland is best for fee-conscious investors looking to add precious metals to their portfolio, as Rosland has lower fees and minimums than most competitors in the industry. But besides pricing, Rosland does not seem to offer a significant difference from other options.

Though the company was founded less than 20 years ago, the look and feel of the website feels antiquated and cluttered. The company also doesn’t appear to invest significantly in PR or advertising like other firms in this space. Neither of these items makes the company less trustworthy, but would-be investors may feel more reassured with a company that does more outreach and is easier to research.

Pros and Cons of Rosland Capital

ProsCons
  • Low minimum balance requirement of $

  • Flat rate fees are displayed on their website

  • The site answers several questions that someone new may ask on the website

  • There isn’t a lot of information about the company on the website; it is more product-focused

  • There doesn’t appear to be a way to open an account without calling and speaking with a representative

  • There is no mobile app

Rosland Capital Costs

According to Rosland Capital’s website, there are no fees for establishing and IRA account. However, Equity Institutional, the IRA custodian, does charge fees. There is a one-time $50 set-up fee and annual fees, including a $100 maintenance fee and a $100 to $150 storage fee, depending on the type of storage chosen.

There is also a $40 statement fee for customers who prefer paper statements, though electronic statements are free of charge.

If you decide to buy and hold physical gold on your own and not through an IRA, there is a $49 shipping fee, but it is waived with a $10,000 purchase. Lastly, Rosland Capital charges a commission, also known as a spread, when you purchase gold. This percentage can range between 4% and 33% and varies depending on the type of metal you are buying.

How to Open an Account with Rosland Capital

To open an account with Rosland Capital, you must call the representative number listed on the website. There is also a form to enter your contact information for a representative to contact you.

After speaking with the representative, they will send over the paperwork needed to complete the opening process, and you will be asked to fund the account via rollover in the case of an IRA, or with a check or wire transfer if you opt to hold physical metals.

Insider’s Take

Rosland Capital’s investment selection consists of gold, silver, and platinum, so the platform is perfect for precious metals-minded investors.

Rosland Capital Offerings

Rosland Capital provides several options to prospective investors. The company offers precious metal IRAs, gold, silver, bars, and a wide range of specialty coins.

Gold IRA

With a Rosland Capital Gold IRA, you can invest in gold and other precious metals with the tax benefits of a retirement account. The company offers both traditional and Roth IRA options, providing flexibility depending on the investor’s preference. The representatives at the company strongly encourage you to open an IRA via rollover, which requires a $10,000 minimum, but with $20,000 or more, you can receive one year of free storage, according to the representatives we spoke with.

Once the account is open, you will have the option to buy and sell items such as gold and silver bars, coins, and more, which will be shipped and stored at a secure facility. To monitor prices and the performance of your investment, you can call your representative or use the client portal provided after the account is opened. In 2023, IRAs of any type have a contribution limit of $6,500 for those under the age of 50 and $7,500 for those aged 50 and up. In 2024, the limits increase to $7,000 and $8,000 respectively. Know that opening a new gold IRA does not increase your contribution limit.

Buying Physical Gold Directly

If you want to own gold outside of an IRA, Rosland Capital allows investors to purchase precious metals directly and have them shipped directly to their homes. Rosland has a large inventory of items, including exclusive branded items like the PGA Tour Coins and Formula 1 Championship coins. For this option, there is a minimum purchase of $2,000, a $49 shipping fee that can be waived with a larger purchase amount, and commission fees, which can vary.

Compare Rosland Capital

Rosland Capital vs. American Hartford Gold

American Hartford Gold shares many similarities with Rosland Capital, though Rosland has lower fees and minimums across the board. Both offer gold IRAs and the option to buy and have precious metals shipped directly to your home. Despite the similarities in their offerings, investors may feel much more familiar with AHG due to its celebrity endorsements and sponsorships.

American Hartford Gold Review

Rosland Capital vs. Lear Capital

Lear Capital has been in the precious metals industry since 1997 and previously employed Rosland Capital’s CEO, Marin Aleksov. Unlike Rosland Capital, Lear offers a branded IRA called the Lear Advantage IRA that offers free IRA set-up and storage and a 24-hour risk-free purchase guarantee, among other benefits. Compared to Rosland Capital, Lear is much more transparent in the account opening process and fees and can be found quite easily on the FAQ section of its website.

Rosland Capital vs. Masterworks

Masterworks is a unique investing platform that allows its users to invest in works of art, including artists like Picasso and Basquiat. While both gold and art are considered alternative investments, their performance record and risks are quite different as gold is a commodity mostly used as a hedge against inflation. In contrast, art carries more risk and expertise for investors to understand the market.

Investors will also notice the difference in required minimums and fees. Masterworks requires a minimum of $15,000 to invest and does not have an IRA option. Investors with Masterworks must also hold their assets between three to 10 years, depending on which art they invest in.
