NYT ‘Connections’ September 21: Clues and Answers for Game #468

It’s Saturday—unwind with a new Connections puzzle and helpful hints from Newsweek.

The New York Times word game skyrocketed to popularity off the heels of Wordle, another popular puzzle launched by the newspaper. At present, Connections is the second-most played word game by the publication, with Wordle being the first.

Wyna Liu, Connections developer and New York Times crossword editor, recently chatted with Newsweek about the game’s popularity.

“The response has been really incredible and overwhelming, and unexpected,” Liu said. “It’s exciting that something I care very deeply about is resonating with people.”

When it comes to conquering the game, Liu added that players should “wait as long as you can before guessing.”

The answers for Saturday’s Connections game will be revealed at the bottom of the page, so scroll at your own risk if you want to work them out for yourself.

How to Play ‘Connections’

Playing Connections is rather simple. Players are tasked with creating four groups of four based on similar characteristics from a grid of 16 words. Each of these groups will be linked to a particular category ranging in difficulty from yellow being the easiest, to purple being the most difficult.

For example, in Friday’s puzzle, one of the categories was “Words after ‘kitty,'” and the words associated with that category were “cat,” “corner,” “hawk” and “litter.” This was a purple category.

You’re welcome to spend your whole Saturday working on the game if you’d like, as there’s no time limit for the game. However, players are only given four chances to win. If an answer is guessed correctly, those words will show in the category color and will be removed from the board. If the answer is not correct, though, the words will remain on the grid.

If you’re in need of a refresh, click the “Shuffle” button. This will reorganize the words to give your brain a reset.
