Neighbor’s Sweet Gesture to Woman Living Alone—’I Will Always Remember’

At times it feels like neighborly warmth is a lost cause, with little more than a “hello” exchanged when passing in apartment block hallways or taking out the trash at the same time.

However, there are some out there keeping up the good work when it comes to showing kindness towards their neighbors and community, as one woman displayed in a now-viral video.

Haley Falkowski’s, 32, sweet relationship with her 60-year-old neighbor, Kelly Denis, is getting online attention after Falkowski shared a slideshow to TikTok showing Denis’ kindness towards her.

Falkowski, who lives alone, was in her current home for three years before Denis moved in with her husband. She told Newsweek how over the last two years the couple have been her neighbors, Denis has “kept an eye on me ever since.”

The on-screen text of the video, which gained over 1.4 million views and 185,000 likes, read: “I live alone, so I rarely bother cooking for myself, but my neighbor always walks over with her ‘DoorDash.'”

The post then took viewers through a slideshow of screenshotted messages from Denis asking if Falkowski wants a food delivery, followed by pictures of the dishes she’d created, with the woman sharing in the caption: “I will always remember how homey she made living here feel.”

Speaking to Newsweek, Falkowski, who lives in Michigan, shared how their relationship started: “She initially asked if she could bring over her homemade chicken noodle soup, so I could keep it in my freezer in case I ever got sick. I brought a bag of my home grown tomatoes over after that, and now we eat dinner together regularly.”

It’s not just food that Falkowski has gained through the relationship, but friendship as well, as Denis regularly goes above and beyond simply lending a cup of sugar. Falkowski continued: “She has kept an eye on me ever since. If she hears anything, or sees anything out of the ordinary she is always checking on me to make sure I’m okay.

“Offering to water my flowers or grab my mail when I’m out of town…just an all around thoughtful, amazing neighbor.”

Denis’ treatment of Falkowski has also made a great impact on her neighbor during a time when others around her are taking different routes with their lives. She said: “I’m at an age where a lot of my friends are getting married and having kids, but I am single and live by myself, so it’s really amazing to have such a kind heart next door.”

What Do the Comments Say?

Falkowski isn’t the only one in awe of Denis’ neighborly disposition, as one user wrote: “This is what community should be!!”

“One by one, I think this type of kindness is exactly how individual people can change the world,” wrote another.

Even DoorDash left a comment under the clip, as the delivery service’s social media page wrote: “Kelly just dashed from her door over to our heart.”
