Michael Buble shares his fellow ‘Voice’ coaches nicknames — and why he doesn’t have one

The upcoming season of “The Voice” is set to have an extra dose of soul and swagger, thanks to its two new coaches.

The NBC singing competition is returning for Season 26 on Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. ET, and both new and veteran coaches will be filling its iconic red chairs.

Pop singer Gwen Stefani and country icon Reba McEntire are returning to the series, while crooner Michael Bublé and rapper Snoop Dogg are taking a spin for the very first time.

NBC first announced that Bublé and Snoop would be joining Season 26 of “The Voice” at its upfront presentation on May 13. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting the debut of the star-studded coaching panel.

In an interview with TODAY.com ahead of the season premiere, Bublé says the dynamic between this year’s “Voice” coaches has turned into “lifelong friendships.”

“I think we could tell really quickly, yeah, we were like-minded and that we loved each other and had each other’s backs,” Bublé shares. “I think the camaraderie of feeling that safety was really amazing.”

The “Home” singer explains that while he and Snoop had “no idea” what they were getting themselves into as new coaches, they felt comforted in knowing that they had McEntire and Stefani to guide “the way.”

“And we, honestly, couldn’t have asked for two better people to break you in. Really maternal and sweet, and both Gwen and Reba are just the best. We all laugh a lot,” he says.

Speaking of laughing, Bublé also shares some pun-filled nicknames for his fellow coaches — from McEntire aka “Reba Magnet-Tire” to Stefani being “Never Ste-phony.”

But when asked what his own nickname on the show is, Bublé jokes that it’s simply “Michael Bublé.”

“My humor is so dry that they never know when I’m being serious or not, and my humor, it’s just that very Canadian,” Bublé says, describing his sense of humor as “dry,” “silly” and “smart aleck”-like.

Regardless of what he’s called — or not called — by his fellow coaches, Bublé refers to their unit as “a family.”

Snoop Dogg

Even though Dogg is making his debut as a coach on “The Voice,” he has previously appeared on the singing competition as a mega mentor in Season 20.

During NBC’s upfront presentation on May 13, Snoop shared his excitement about joining the show as a coach while standing on stage with McEntire.

“Since Reba is the queen of ‘The Voice’ who brings the sparkle, I can be the king who brings the style, the funk and the fun,” he said.

At the beginning of a compilation video shared by the “Voice” YouTube channel on Sept. 19, Snoop introduced himself to the camera while sitting in his red chair.

“‘Voice’ fans, Coach Snoop is here. It’s going to be a fun-filled season, you better believe it,” he said.

Reba McEntire

McEntire has been a coach on the singing competition since Season 24, making this her third consecutive season in a red chair. Her team won Season 25 when Asher HaVon was crowned the season’s top singer.

But her history with “The Voice” has preceded her coaching days. She was a battle advisor to Blake Shelton’s team during the show’s inaugural season in 2011. She also stepped in as a mega mentor for Season 23 before making her coaching debut.

Bublé is no stranger to the “The Voice”: The Grammy-winning singer was an advisor to Shelton’s team in Season 3.

Now, the “I Just Haven’t Met You Yet” singer is taking a seat in a red spinning chair of his own, and he’s expressed how grateful he is to be a coach on the show.

“I think it’s as important for us to take care and shelter and love these people if, as if they’re going on further in the show,” Bublé tells TODAY.com

“Or if they’re not — I mean, there’s part of all of us that know how hard it was for us to get to where we are and how lucky we are,” he continues.

Gwen Stefani

Stefani is entering her eighth season as a coach on “The Voice,” previously sitting in a red chair for Seasons 7, 9, 12, 17, 19, 22 and 24.

The “Just a Girl” singer, whose team claimed victory in Season 19 when Carter Rubin won, has stepped into other roles on “The Voice” throughout the years. Stefani was a battle advisor for husband Shelton’s team in Season 10 and a top 8 advisor for previous coaches Pharrell Williams and Christina Aguilera in Season 8.

The singing competition also holds some sentimental value for Stefani and Shelton, as they first met while filming in 2014. The couple got married in 2021, and their wedding was officiated by “The Voice” host and Shelton’s good pal, TODAY’s own Carson Daly.
