Mets activate recently-acquired Huascar Brazoban amid flurry of roster moves

The Mets have activated right-handed reliever Huascar Brazoban, a day after acquiring him from the Miami Marlins.

With Brazoban joining the 26-man roster, left-handed reliever Matt Gage was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Meanwhile, right-handed reliever Tyler Zuber, whom the Mets acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday, was also optioned to Triple-A.

Brazoban is one of three key relievers the Mets added via trade ahead of the deadline, along with Phil Maton and Ryne Stanek.

The 34-year-old Brazoban — who is under team control through 2028 — is in the midst of his best season, with a 2.93 ERA (2.64 FIP) and 1.01 WHIP with 34 strikeouts in 30.2 innings over 20 appearances.

During his three-year career, all with Miami, he has posted a 3.56 ERA (3.62 FIP) and 1.33 WHIP while striking out 10.3 batters per nine.

Along with Brazoban, Stanek, and Maton, the Mets should soon be getting more reinforcements for the bullpen.

Sean Reid-Foley is in the middle of a rehab assignment, while Reed Garrett will begin one on Saturday.
