Earlier this week, the Vegas Golden Knights announced that former Buffalo Sabres goalie Robin Lehner would not report to training camp. While the 2009 second-round pick has missed each of the last two seasons, he was supposed to go to camp to undergo a physical to confirm that he was not healthy enough to return to the ice. That is a requirement for all players who are long-term injured reserve.

Due to Lehner’s absence from training camp, the possibility of the Golden Knights terminating the veteran goalie’s contract has been brought up. The 33-year-old goaltender is entering the final year of his five-year, $25 million contract with Vegas.
Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon recently shared with reporters that the club, NHL, and NHLPA are discussing the next steps regarding the Lehner situation.
Now, Lehner has broken his silence on the matter with a short statement:
“All I can say at this time is everyone knows why I couldn’t be there. I am waiting calmly for things to be sorted out.”
