Billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk endorsed former President Donald Trump almost an hour after Mr. Trump collapsed on stage during a Saturday rally in Pennsylvania when shots were heard.

“I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” Mr. Musk posted on his X platform.

In a subsequent X post Mr. Musk posted an interview of a witness on the scene who explained to the BBC he saw the shooter position himself on a roof of a building and attempted to notify authorities.

Above that video post, Mr. Musk called for the head of the Secret Service and the leader of Mr. Trump’s security detail to resign.

Mr. Trump was bloodied, but his campaign said he avoided serious injury when shots rang out during his remarks on stage at a campaign stop in Butler, Pennsylvania. There were reports that the unidentified shooter and a member of the crowd were killed in the attack.

Mr. Trump, 78, pumped his fist several times and mouthed the word “fight” as Secret Service agents formed a shield around him and led him off the stage. His ear appeared to be struck by something following popping sounds.

Mr. Trump was bleeding from his ear, which he grabbed moments before ducking to the ground behind his podium. Streaks of blood could be seen on his face.

According to the Economic Times, Mr. Musk met with Mr. Trump in March while in Florida. Mr. Musk, the outlet reported, said that Mr. Trump spoke during most of the meeting and declined to accept a political donation.

Mr. Musk at that point declared that he was not giving money to either presidential candidate on his social media platform X, which he controls.

In several interviews, Mr. Trump has expressed positive opinions on the billionaire entrepreneur who runs Tesla and the aerospace company SpaceX, as well as the X social media site. Mr.Trump acknowledged Mr. Musk’s assistance throughout his presidency.

Prior to his endorsement, Mr. Musk mad a substantial contribution to the pro-Trump political organization America PAC, a political action committee headquartered in Austin, Texas, Bloomberg News reported.
