A dog’s unique way of getting into the Halloween spirit recently gained over 17,000 upvotes on Reddit and left people doing a double take.
Reddit user u/onthefrontlinegaming broke out the Halloween decorations to prep for next month’s spooky season. Trying to make things as scary as possible, the user put out decorations that included severed limbs, but instead of letting those items rest peacefully, the Great Dane had other plans.
The dog decided these decorations would be perfect for a fun game of fetch. Day in and day out, she takes a severed limb, proudly carrying it around as if she had found a prize, and brings it to her owners. But it doesn’t stop there. She finds these items quite comforting, in a unique, sinister way, when it’s nap time.
The owner snapped a picture of the dog napping with the “severed leg” and posted it to the subreddit channel r/WhatsWrongWithYourDog on September 19. Taken aback, viewers needed to reread the post before any sigh of relief.

The dog brought the severed leg onto the bed with her as a new toy to cuddle with. She rested her face on the calf, with the foot and toes sticking out, unconcerned about the fright it might cause others.
Another picture shared with Newsweek by the owner shows the dog again with her favorite severed limb. This time she placed her paws on top of the Halloween decoration. She was protecting her new favorite toy at all costs.
The owner told Newsweek via Reddit messaging that this is an everyday occurrence. And if not the leg, it could be a severed hand or heart. The owner said in a comment on the post that the decorations should have been placed elsewhere, adding that it might get awkward when someone comes over.
The post has over 17,000 upvotes and 100 comments, and Reddit users couldn’t stop laughing at the dog’s unusual snuggle buddy. But some questioned why these owners already had their Halloween decorations out.
“Well, that settles it. If I ever have a dog, all of the chew toys will look like severed body parts. Oh, the possibilities. I love it,” commented one user.
A second person joked: “Plot twist: OP’s Halloween decorations do not include a severed leg.”
Another wrote: “Some delivery person is going to see him playing with one of these through a window and call the cops lol. This is amazing.”
