Trina McGee suffered a miscarriage just three months after announcing her pregnancy on social media.

“At the tender age of 54 I have found myself pregnant. Please bless us with your prayers for a safe delivery. Thank you,” McGee posted to Instagram on June 3. She thanked fans and followers in advance for their “prayers and well wishes.” The former Boy Meets World star also announced that she was “Gonna sign off social media for a bit.”

The mother-to-be confirmed the pregnancy in an interview with People on June 17, admitting that the news of the “miracle” came as a “shock” to her and her family. McGee, already a mother of three from her first marriage to actor Courtland Davis, was expecting her first child with her current husband, Marcello Thedford.

During an interview on the Tamron Hall Show on Monday, September 23, McGee held back tears as she revealed, “I did lose the baby. It wasn’t expected; it was closer to the end of the first trimester.” She later added, “We really don’t have any real reason why. I was still so grateful to have the experience of being able to conceive at this age and this time.” The Girl Meets World alum also acknowledged that the decision to share her pregnancy so early “might have been a little immature and admitted that she “was just so excited and so shocked.”

McGee went into detail about the hardships that came with the loss of the pregnancy, admitting to Tamron that “It was very hard to face the fact that it’s not going to happen at this point in the junction.” She also shared that she went through “a lot of depression after,” admitting she found it “kind of hard to get out of bed.”

“There’s so many things that come when you really want a family, and you want your family to be complete,” McGee said. Her husband, Marcello later joined the interview, and disclosed that the couple had named their baby Sunny, though they did not know the sex yet. “It’s hard,” he added. “You’re talking to a man who just a couple of months ago or so was holding her belly every night, talking to the baby.”

When asked if the couple would try to conceive again, McGee responded, “I feel sometimes it really is better to let go and let God. Part of me doesn’t ever want to go through this again, but I think the conclusion I came to is: ‘We’ll just keep loving each other, if something happens that way, fine,’ but I don’t want to put another anxiety on myself about: ‘Oh I’ve got to have a baby because this didn’t work out.'”

McGee also shared that she and her husband are fostering a young girl in their home in Belize, adding, “We just have a lot of love to give, and we’d like to share it.”
