Chargers Star QB Justin Herbert Leaves Game vs Steelers With Apparent Injury

• Bookmarks: 1

The Los Angeles Chargers fears may have been released as star quarterback Justin Herbert has left the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to injury. He was replaced by backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke.

Herbert entered this game as questionable due to a high-ankle sprain and it seems that he may have re-aggravated it. There was thought for him to miss this game to allow it to heal but he was ruled active prior to kickoff.

He is being listed as questionable to return to this game due to the ankle issue. The Bolts will likely keep him out of the game for the remainder of the contest as they don’t want to make this issue any worse.

Herbert was seen limping off to the sidelines which is never a good sign. Los Angeles likely won’t risk the health of their star quarterback just to finish a game in Week 3.

Before he left, Herbert threw for 125 yards and one touchdown. He connected with second-year wide receiver Quentin Johnston for another touchdown.

The Chargers’ offensive attack this season has been mainly planned through the ground game due to an inexperienced wide receiver core. Los Angeles has gashed teams on the ground through the first two weeks, a staple of a Jim Harbaugh-led team.

Without Herbert, we could see the Chargers lean even more into their running attack. Running back J.K. Dobbins has been leading the charger for the Bolts this season, showing everyone his explosiveness coming back from another major injury.

Herbert wasn’t the only big player that the Bolts lost in this game. The Chargers also lost star pass rusher Joey Bosa in this game due to injury. The team also saw starting offensive tackle Rashawn Slater leave the game due to a pectoral injury.

Things haven’t quite gone their way so far, at least injury-wise. Heinicke will be tasked with keeping the Bolts afloat while Herbert is out of this game. It remains to be seen who will start for Los Angeles if he has to miss any time moving forward.

Los Angeles will try to get out of this game in Pittsburgh without any other injuries. But the minds of the entire team will be on how severe the injury to Herbert is.
