Halle Berry’s new thriller is getting a wild reaction from fans. Here’s what they have to say

Halle Berry had a special request for those who planned to check out her new thriller, “Never Let Go,” in theaters: Send her photos of themselves watching the film in their “distressed wigs.”

Her playful request was a nod to the criticism she’s received over the years for her dramatic, and at times erratic, hairstyles she’s worn in movies.

Berry’s newly released supernatural thriller, which is the first project under her HalleHolly production company, is about a family who believes their home protects them from the evil that has taken over the world. However, things soon turn awry once one of Berry’s character’s twin sons starts questioning his reality and the evil that lurks beyond their doorstep.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film, which hit theaters on Sept. 20, received mixed reviews, scoring a 63% rating from critics and a 55% rating from viewers.

On X, fans shared their reactions to the film starring the Oscar-winning actor.

One person wrote, “#NeverLetGo was sooooo good. A true thriller/horror that had me guessing at everything. I need everyone to go watch because I need to talk lol. Halle is fantastic as ever and her two costars, Anthony and Percy were just amazing. More films like this plz.”

In response, Berry said, “Thank you so glad you enjoyed it. #NeverLetGo.”

Another said, “@halleberry your were spectacular in ‘Never Let Go’ !!!! What a great movie!!! Excellent!!! 10/10.”

Another X user wrote, “Never Let Go was SOOOOO GOOD. @halleberry is GENIUS.”

But others weren’t as impressed, with one user saying, “The ending of Never Let Go confused the hell out of me lowkey like wait.”

Another had similar sentiments, noting they were “irritated watching this never let go movie like it’s actually p—ing me off.”

A third offered a bit more detail with their critique, saying the film felt “decent” at best.

“The story is very much a slow burn and that will turn a lot of people off, but I think it *mostly* works since it allows us to feel that same meaningless existence that the characters feel,” the person wrote. “However, the final act is hurting the film for me. It goes into territories with the answers we seek that just felt annoyingly confusing rather a satisfyingly ambiguous, at least for me. There’s a lot of major questions regarding the mother and her past that are left completely unanswered, and not in a way that’s interesting. I also felt the film didn’t go quite as deep with its themes as it could have.”

While fans have had a lot to say about the film following its release, Berry has continued to promote her new project and interact with fans online.

“Me when the photos start rolling in from the #NeverLetGo Wig Screenings, making sure you all did it justice,” she tweeted, sharing a GIF of Meryl Streep in the 2006 film “Devil Wears Prada.”

“Yall have been ragging on my movie wigs for years Let the Wig Off begin,” she joked.

She even hosted a special screening of “Never Let Go” where everyone had to come wearing a wig — and they did just that.

“My fans SHOWED UP and SHOWED OUT! You guys have been jokingly ‘dragging’ me for years about these wigs so we thought we’d have a little fun by hosting a few Wig Screenings for #NeverLetGo 😉,” she wrote on Instagram. “This was so much fun and the wigs were hilarious. I appreciate all the love! 🤍.”
