Spanning cuisines, neighborhoods, and price points, this guide is our shortlist of Montreal’s must-try spots, reflecting the new openings driving conversation, the trends playing out across dining tables, and the generational icons holding down their communities.

Updated, September 2024:

Harvest season keeps Montreal’s restaurant scene buzzing even as patios fold away. Expect enviable spreads featuring farm-fresh sweet corn, tart apples, juicy tomatoes, and leeks galore across town this time of year. Though the season brings plenty of excitement, many eyes in the restaurant world are looking further ahead, with news that Michelin recognition is on the way. After years of speculation, the Michelin Guide will bestow stars on Quebec in 2025, following its debut in Toronto and Vancouver in 2022. Stars or not, the city’s food game is one of the world’s best, with plenty to discover. This latest update features a lineup of new spots like La Petite-Patrie bakery Automne with its seasonal sweets, Little Italy’s Impasto with its regional Italian fare, and bustling new brasserie Casavant.

Eater updates this list quarterly to make sure it reflects the ever-changing Montreal dining scene.
