Following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Lando Norris’s McLaren race engineer Will Joseph shared a heartfelt message over the team radio, dedicating their effort to a very personal cause.

“Do you mind if I dedicate this to someone?” Joseph asked Norris moments after the race concluded.

Joseph then shared a poignant memory: “My dad passed away 10 years ago today as I was on the way to Singapore… so this is to him. He would be very proud of us all.”

The tribute quickly resonated with F1 fans, who took to social media to react to the touching moment.

“A touching dedication, a heartfelt gesture from Will.”

“Oh my god, I just started crying.”

“I’m not crying, you’re crying.”

“My heart. Rest in peace will’s dad, this one is for you.”

“RIP. He would of been proud. I’m guessing Lando didn’t know what Will was gonna say cause he sounded moody af lol.” [sic]

The emotional tribute stood out in an event marked by other notable occurrences. Oscar Piastri clinched victory, with Charles Leclerc and George Russell securing second and third place, respectively. Norris finished in fourth, closely followed by Max Verstappen in fifth.

Further down the field, Fernando Alonso took sixth place, followed by Alex Albon, Franco Colapinto, Lewis Hamilton, and Ollie Bearman, rounding out the top ten.

Unfortunately, several drivers did not finish, including Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez, Lance Stroll, and Yuki Tsunoda.

Speaking to the media after the race, Norris was clearly unhappy with his fourth place finish. He explained:

“No, it wasn’t fair. You don’t have to be a scientist to work it out. I know I got a fourth today and that’s not bad, but it could have been better. I think Oscar showed what was possible today. It was unfair.

“There was no yellow the whole lap and they put a yellow out just as I came past. Did I go off the track just before it? Yes. Would I still easily have got into the top 15? Yes. I know there’s a lot of people that thought that would ruin my lap. I was still easily in, even with my off-track.

“I only lost a couple of tenths and I still easily would have been in. Yes, people can say what they want. I find a lot of it funny, but this was out of my control and it was something that was unfair and cost me a good amount of points in the championship today and ruined my weekend.”
