An orange cat has captured internet users’ hearts with his surprising ability to perform dog-like tricks.

A cat named Lucas (@azias.family) showcased a set of tricks, including sit and paw, in an impressive performance more commonly associated with dogs.

“Spin, sit, paw,” the owner says, as his orange cat showed off his impressive repertoire, which amassed more than 156,000 likes and over 1.3 million views.

In the video, Lucas sits on command, gives his paw, and even delivers a high-five—all actions more typically expected from a well-trained dog than a young cat.

The video’s overlay text reads, “He’s so smart for a kitten,” a sentiment echoed by many of the clip’s viewers.

One of the video’s highlights features Lucas standing on his hind legs, prompted by his owner who says, “Good boy, stand one more time, stand, stand,” while holding a plate of tuna as a reward.

While Lucas’s abilities might seem extraordinary, it is important to note that cats can indeed be trained to perform various tricks.

Zoetis Petcare says that felines are capable of learning commands similar to dogs, particularly when motivated by food or other rewards.

The key to successful cat training is understanding that, unlike dogs, cats are more independent and require different techniques.

Training sessions should be kept short and enjoyable, using positive reinforcement such as treats or play. Consistency and repetition are crucial, as these help cats understand and retain what they are being taught.

Research highlighted in Psychology Today said orange cats like Lucas are often perceived as more affectionate and friendly than felines of other colors. This perception is supported by some scientific studies that suggest orange cats may be more social and outgoing due to their genetic makeup.

Additionally, the distinctiveness of their fur color makes them stand out, contributing to their special status in the eyes of many cat lovers.

The video of Lucas has sparked a wave of reactions online.

One user posted: “Smartest orange ever.”

Another viewer humorously asked: “When is he going to drag race Missy with his V12?” A third wrote: “My cat can only sit and spin.”

Other comments included, “Lucas is such a good cat, OMG [oh my god],” and “Smartest orange ever.”

One commenter posted, “A whole choreography before the meal is crazy,” underscoring the effort Lucas puts into his routine.
