Woman Living in City Reveals How She Ended Up With a Baby Lamb as Roommate

A woman from Melbourne went viral on social media after revealing the identity of her newest flatmate, a baby lamb her dad rescued in the countryside.

In a viral video shared on Instagram in June, under the username yungdaenerys, Erin can be seen taking care of her new baby lamb, bottle-feeding him and giving him all the love and attention as she drives him to her apartment in Melbourne.

“Back home my dad’s a farmer, and while checking the mob he found this little guy abandoned at just a day old,” she stated in the clip, “without his mom’s milk his chances were slim, but every three hours, even through the night, I fed him.

“We were both exhausted, it felt like a glimpse into becoming a mom. Against all odds, Dusty got stronger, but he needed constant care. Lambs can’t go straight from milk to pasture, they need to be weaned. But I also had to get back to Melbourne for work, so it was time for a road trip.”

The poster told Newsweek: “So far, Dusty enjoys goat milk lattes and the winter fashions of Melburnians. He particularly loves when friends pop by in matching woollen jumpers.

“He was also amused by someone exclaiming, ‘Is that a calf?!’ when we were at the park. He’s been mistaken for a goat before, but never a calf. I guess that’s city folk for you!”

Erin said Dusty is currently fighting an infection, but he’s had phenomenal vets who’ve helped him every step of the way.

“I’m weaning him from milk to pasture—he’s currently drinking goat milk (in the absence of mother’s milk) and eating oaten hay, chaff, etc. As soon as he’s able to eat independently, he’ll be going back to the open fields to live out his days as a pet, which is a typical outcome for poddies!”

Farm animals can make wonderful pets, but according to the RSPCA, before deciding to adopt one, it’s important to consider whether you have the knowledge, time, facilities, money, and commitment needed to care for them.

You should ensure you can always understand the animals’ physical and behavioral needs, provide the correct diet and day-to-day care, handle them safely, and be able to recognize signs of injury and disease.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across Instagram. It has so far received over 3.1 million views and 369,000 likes on the platform.

One user, theroguepoppy, commented: “But I’ve said repeatedly, you tell the city folk it’s a rare poodle no one will knowwwww.”

Evstachip89 said: “I feel like this needs to be an animated movie someone tag Pixar lol.”

Foodstuffthings added: “Saving this video for inspo, for when I have to explain to my partner how I ‘accidentally’ found a lamb that now has to live in our apartment.”
