Dog Discovers Mud, Ignores Owner and Proceeds To ‘Submerge Herself’

The internet has fallen in love with a goldendoodle who has discovered a passion for mud baths.

Dumpling lives with her owner Michelle Roman in downtown Chicago, not far from the famous Lincoln Park, where recently she discovered a huge, muddy puddle, and let rip.

“It was a 20-minute walk of shame home and a 60-minute bath,” Roman told Newsweek. “It was worth it.”

Roman has shared multiple videos of Dumpling loving the rain, mud, and just chilling at home to her TikTok and Instagram accounts @dumplingthedoodle, many of which have racked up hundreds of thousands of views.

And in a video sent to Newsweek, she shared Dumpling’s “mud debut,” featuring the dog having the time of her life splashing around and submerging herself in mud so thick she can’t even see.

All the while, Roman can be heard laughing non-stop, while her boyfriend, Michael Meyers, exasperatedly pleads with Dumpling to stop and get out.

Which, naturally, Dumpling ignores—possibly from having mud in her ears.

Plenty of pet owners will tell you their dogs love rolling in mud, and there are a few reasons your four-legged friend might make a beeline for a muddy puddle: one being boredom, another being the opportunity to cool off on a hot or humid day, according to pet care site Wag!

Another theory is that the behavior is instinctual, as wolves have been known to mask their scent while hunting prey by rolling in mud or animal carcasses.

Roman had to do a “walk of shame” with Dumpling back home, followed by a long bath. She said it was “worth it” to see Dumpling having so much fun.

In videos on TikTok showing Dumpling’s other muddy adventures, users were in pieces laughing at the end result, with one calling it Dumpling’s “best life ever”.

“She’s an absolute menace, I love it,” another said, one describing it as an “instant inexpensive mud bath”.

And as one put it: “HOW did we get Dumpling home, cuz I know NO ONE wanted to get near Dumpling after that.”

Roman responded in a comment that they first tried to get the drying mud of the dog in a fountain at the park, but unfortunately it didn’t work.

She told Newsweek: “We play fetch in the park all the time, but this time she discovered mud for the first time and had zero hesitation to submerge herself.”

“I was laughing so hard at her pure joy I couldn’t get mad at her—all the while knowing I’d be the one cleaning up the mess,” she added.
