If you recently bought a tub of cream cheese, you should check the label. Schreiber Foods announced it is recalling 836,721 units of various cream cheese products due to a potential salmonella contamination. The Food and Drug Administration initiated the recall on May 3, 2024, and it is still ongoing — and growing.

Which products have been affected? This recall is taking place at various grocery stores and food retailers including Aldi, Dutch Farms, Fareway, Happy Farms, Hy Vee, Kroger, Our Family, Schnuck, Essential Everyday, Dunkin’, Piggly Wiggly, and Schreiber Foods cream cheeses.

The recall has extended to a number of states across America: California, Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. Some of the products were also shipped to Puerto Rico.

Symptoms of salmonella can pop up within 12 to 72 hours after eating the contaminated foods. These symptoms can include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever, and healthy adults will usually feel sick within four and seven days. If you feel you have been affected, seek medical attention. The USDA alert system can keep you up to date on any future food recalls that may occur.
