Gary Neville has ruled out Manchester United making a title charge next season.

The Reds climbed to third in the Premier League table as they were held by West Ham in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

The stalemate extended their unbeaten league run to 13 matches with Mason Greenwood scoring his 17th goal of the season.

Despite their impressive form, United legend Neville believes his old club need ‘three of four’ new signings to challenge at the top of the table.

He told Sky Sports: “I don’t think this Manchester United team at this moment can challenge for the title next season.

“It needs more additions and more of the right additions.

“To be fair to Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer], in the time he has been at the club, I think the players he has brought in have improved his team enormously.

“I think that he needs three or four more of those as a minimum before he can even think about getting up into third or second place.”

Liverpool lifted a first ever Premier League title on Wednesday

While believing United are not on Liverpool’s level yet, Neville does not think Jurgen Klopp’s side will dominate the Premier League in years to come.

He added: “No, I’m not [concerned].

“What would concern me about Liverpool for a long period would be if they were bought out by a super-rich owner, who invested at the level of Manchester City or Manchester United.

“Liverpool still, in their transfer business, are still quite modest compared to the other clubs.

“Their owners just don’t have the money of a Manchester City, or the spending power of a Manchester United or a Chelsea.”
