Benito hit the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix wearing a very familiar-looking trompe l’oeil bikini shirt.

It’s nearly summer and Bad Bunny is already on at least a few different hot streaks, not least of which is how wildly he’s been dressing lately.

The Puero Rican superstar—still basking in the afterglow of his recent smash Coachella headlining performances, still being frequently photographed by Kendall Jenner’s side—is currently in Monte Carlo for this weekend’s Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, a.k.a. the biggest thing happening on the French Riviera right now. And even though Bad Bunny’s always been a delightfully unorthodox dresser, it seems he’s taken a cue from his new close supermodel pal Kendall with his Monaco shirt choice: a sheer, body-hugging polo shirt from French designer Jean Paul Gaultier’s spring 1996 collection, featuring the brand’s signature (and recently revitalized) “cyberdots” pattern. This particular shirt also has another Gaultier signature: a trompe l’oeil bathing suit imprint, giving the impression that Benito is wearing a high-cut swimsuit complete with a triangle bikini top. As French people in American cartoons like to say: Ooh la la!

Certainly it’s not a new phenomenon that when two people start hanging out together a lot, they also start dressing alike; Bad Bunny and Jenner also recently sported his-and-hers snakeskin boots to sit courtside at a Lakers game, which may or may not have inspired their (married) friends Justin and Hailey Bieber to finally coordinate their outfits, too

Nonetheless, as we know, Bentio’s a fashion guy, and Gaultier’s archival cyberdot print has become one of the more recognizable designer patterns to dominate Instagram in the last year; Kendall’s sisters Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner—in addition to Cardi B, Doja Cat, Dua Lipa, Ice Spice, and Chlöe Bailey—have all sported JPG dots recently. (Last summer, while vacationing with Rihanna in Barbadosnew dad A$AP Rocky opted for a decidedly more masc Gaultier trompe l’oeil: a long-sleeve tee imprinted with a chiseled neon torso, which came from the label’s collaboration with Parisian brand Y/Project.)

And according to the F1 Experiences website—which bills itself as “the official experience, hospitality, and travel programme to Formula 1’s worldwide races”—“smart casual dress is the order of the day” at the Monaco Grand Prix. And if Bad Bunny wearing a vintage shirt that makes him look like he’s in a bikini to a major F1 event isn’t “smart casual,” well, what is?
