Many of us are experiencing cooking fatigue during quarantine — according to a survey from American Express, more than 50% of consumers are ordering takeout or delivery more often than before the pandemic.

Amex just announced a new benefit that could help you save some money when you decide to order food: a complimentary Uber Eats Pass membership for up to 12 months.

The Uber Eats Pass membership is available on 3 Amex cards

The Uber Eats Pass is available to American Express® Green Card, American Express® Gold Card, and The Platinum Card® from American Express holders. Eligible cardholders will get $0 delivery fees and 5% off restaurant orders over $15, and $0 delivery fees on grocery deliveries over $30 in select markets.

If you have The Platinum Card® from American Express card, this will be your second Uber benefit, since the card already offers up to $200 in statement credits with Uber each year. You get up to $15 in Uber credits each month, with a $20 bonus in December (for a total of $35). You can use the credits for either Uber rides or Uber Eats orders.

Since an Uber Eats Pass subscription costs $9.99 per month, this benefit is worth up to $119. If you’re interested in using this benefit and you have one of the three eligible cards, make sure to enroll by December 31.

This benefit is similar to the complimentary year of DoorDash DashPass membership available to Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders. Like the Uber Eats Pass, DashPass gets members discounts on orders and waived delivery fees for DoorDash orders.

American Express® Gold Card

Amex Gold cardholders will get up to $120 in annual Uber Cash

In addition to the complimentary Uber Eats Pass, Amex Gold cardholders will get up to $120 in Uber Cash each year. This is divided into up to $10 in credits each month, and the Uber Cash can be used on either Uber rides or Uber Eats purchases.

The American Express® Gold Card also offers up to $10 in statement credits each month when you use your card at participating restaurants and delivery services (Grubhub, Seamless, the Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Boxed, and participating Shake Shack locations). So with this new Uber Eats benefit, you can get up to $20 back on dining purchases each month.

The American Express® Gold Card is one of our favorite credit cards for maximizing dining purchases, since you’ll earn 4x points at restaurants worldwide in addition to getting monthly statement credits. The card is currently offering an elevated welcome bonus of 60,000 points after you spend at least $4,000 in your first 6 months of account opening, so now could be a great time to apply.

Amex says this benefit will be added early next year, so stay tuned for more info.
